Everyone is a little bit of each of their parents. I have a similar personality as my mom; we are loud, we love to laugh, we are flirts, and we both can be stubborn with a bit of sass. But my dad and I have a different connection. Its not our personalities are that similar, but our dreams. One thing my dad loves is to cook. In fact sometimes he is very difficult to cook with... Looking over my shoulder he asks if I need to add this spice or that, saying that he thinks it looks like its burning. Usually I have to just give him a side job to keep him occupied. But we share this passion and I appreciate that, we would enjoy taking a cooking class or going further than that.
Travel is another passion we share. I have been to New York and Washington D. C. and other exciting places. I come back with stories to tell and he is always ready to hear them. He loves to hear about the experiences imaging them as we go, living through my vivid descriptions.
I remember when I was younger and my dad would always tell me and my sisters, "Travel the world before you settle down." When I was little I didn't like this idea, I thought that idea sounded lonely and I wanted to start a family. Now I want to travel, I seek adventure from stories and experiences that I find along the way of life. I wish that my dad had this pleasure that I am embracing.
My mom doesn't like to travel. She doesn't like the crowd of the big city. She doesn't have the desire to see the world that me and my dad share. This has given me and my dad a strong bond, and I cherish that.
While talking to a friend last night about this I decided that some day me and my dad will travel. Who knows where we will go, maybe to a distant land, maybe on a road trip to the city, maybe just to some tourist site around the USA, but I will make it happen. When I decided I want something to happen I make it happen. I get determined and plan how I can make it work, but nothing can stand it the way of that. Though my dreams may not happen instantly, I will make it happen. Some day we will travel together, and our passion and dream will grow and thrive.
